Editing the Signature
Overview
Adjust and fine-tune signature images for optimal placement and size on payroll checks. This topic covers resizing and repositioning scanned signatures.
Adjusting Signature Placement
If the signature prints on the check but not exactly above the signature line:
- Rescan the signature
- Add more blank area on the appropriate side to adjust the placement
- To move signature left: Add blank space on the right side
- To move signature right: Add blank space on the left side
- To move signature up: Add blank space below
- To move signature down: Add blank space above
- Open the signature file with Microsoft Paint
- Adjust the horizontal and vertical percentages to resize
- Save the modified file
- Scan area: Approximately 3/4 inch by 2.5 inches
- Capture area: Only a rectangle about 1/4 inch around the signature
- Aspect ratio: The captured rectangle should be approximately 3 times wider than its height
- Resolution: Save the image at 300 DPI
- File size: Normally 32-64 KB, not more than 200 KB
- File name: [FileID].bmp (e.g., A01.bmp)
- Location: C:\PAYSOFT\PROPAY26 directory (or your ProPay installation directory)
- Billing checks: [FileID]_BILL.bmp (e.g., A01_BILL.bmp)
- Rescan the signature at a higher resolution (300 DPI or higher)
- Ensure the original signature is clear and well-defined
- Use a high-quality scanner
- Verify the file name matches the client's file ID exactly
- Ensure the file is saved in the correct ProPay directory
- Check that the file is in .BMP format
- Maintain the proper aspect ratio (3:1 width to height)
- Use the Stretch/Skew feature in Paint to adjust proportionally
- Avoid extreme resizing that can cause distortion
Resizing the Signature
If the scanned signature prints too big or too small:
