> Important: The deduction description must match "MdSaves" exactly. ProPay searches deduction descriptions to identify which deduction field to include in the export file.
Exporting Employee Census Data
The census export creates a file containing employee demographics for submission to the MdSaves program.
Census file contents:
| Field | Format |
|---|---|
| Social Security Number | 9 digits |
| First Name, Middle Initial, Last Name, Suffix | Text |
| Date of Birth | MMDDYYYY |
| Address, City, State, ZIP | Text |
| Phone, Email | Text |
After export, ProPay offers three options:
Exporting Contribution Data
The contribution export creates a file containing deduction amounts for each enrolled employee.
The same post-export options (view, email, upload) are available.
Tips and Warnings
> Tip: Export and submit contribution data after each payroll run to keep the MdSaves program current with your client's payroll schedule.
> Warning: The MD Saves menu option only appears for clients with a Maryland state code. If you do not see this option, verify the client's state is set to MD in Employer Setup.
> Note: ProPay uses the same export engine for CalSavers (CA), MdSaves (MD), CT Savings (CT), and Ascensus format exports (CA, IL, OR). The setup and workflow are similar across all state retirement programs.
