Tax Forms Print on Upper Quarter of Page
Problem
Tax forms print on the upper one-fourth of the page instead of using the full page.
Solution
Step 1: Change printer resolution to 300 DPI
The most common solution is to reduce printer resolution from 600 DPI to 300 DPI.
Important: Tax forms must be printed at 300 DPI resolution for proper alignment.
Step 2: Set up the HP LaserJet Series II driver
- Go to Client Functions > Setup > System Setup > Tab 3 (Printers) on the ProPay Main Menu
- Check which printer you're using for reports
- Click the dropdown arrow to see available printers
- Select HP LaserJet Series II if available (it defaults to 300 DPI)
Step 3: Configure custom printer resolution
If you're using a different printer:
- Close ProPay
- Open My Computer > Printers
- Click the printer icon you use for ProPay reports
- Right-click and choose Properties
- Click the Details tab
- Find the print resolution setting (location varies by printer model)
- Set Print Resolution to 300 DPI
- Click OK and close all windows
Step 4: Set as default printer (if needed)
If the problem persists after changing resolution:
- Open My Computer > Printers
- Click the icon of your reports printer
- Right-click the same icon
- Select Set as Default
Why This Happens
Tax forms are designed for 300 DPI printing. Higher resolution settings (such as 600 DPI) can cause alignment issues that compress the form into the upper portion of the page.
