Restoring Files

Overview

Use the PPBACKUP.EXE backup and restore utility to restore files that were previously backed up using the ProPay Backup and Restore utility.

Locating the Restore Utility

The PPBACKUP.EXE file should be located in the \PAYSOFT\PROPAY26 folder. If you use it daily to back up your files, it may be shown as a shortcut on your desktop.

Double-click this file to start the program.

How to Restore Files

1. Select your restore option:
• Click Restore Clients to restore all payroll clients' files
• Click Restore Single client to restore files for a single client
1. Click SELECT ZIP FILE to select the file you wish to restore data from.
• This file may reside on your ZIP drive or any other drive where you keep backups
• Verify it is a recent backup
1. Review the file name conventions to determine how recent the zipped file is.
1. Click EXPAND ALL to expand the files from the zipped file to your working ProPay folder.

File Naming Conventions

Each client consists of several files, with all files having the first 3 characters of the file names in common.

All files below are associated with one client with a file ID of "XXX":

XXX_TAX.DBF	XXX_TAX.CDX	Tax file
XXX_WCCO.DBF	-	Worker's Comp carrier info
XXX_WCID.DBF	XXX_ID.CDX	Worker's Comp codes and rates
XXX_WCPD.DBF	-	Worker's Comp payments file
XXX_STCO.DBF	-	Multi-State Co Info

Note: 'XXX' above represents your client's file ID.

Any other files with the XXX prefix are non-essential files used to store data temporarily while printing or generating various reports for this company.
