Retrieving 941/940 IRS Acknowledgements

Overview

After you e-file Form 941 or Form 940 returns, the IRS sends back an acknowledgement file confirming receipt and acceptance status. These acknowledgements are your proof of filing and contain important information about whether the IRS accepted or rejected each return. Keep acknowledgements for your records and to provide confirmation to clients.

When transmitting your 941 and 940 files to the IRS, it is recommended that you print the submission receipt page. If there is a problem downloading the acknowledgement file, you can use the submission information to retrieve the individual acknowledgement files for your clients.

Print Your Submission Receipt

After uploading your 941/940 files to the IRS, print the submission receipt page. This page contains:

  • Submission ID numbers
  • File upload confirmation
  • Timestamp information

Keep this receipt for your records and for retrieving acknowledgements if needed.
