Initial Checks

Verify PDF995 is installed

  2. Verify that the pdf995 driver appears in the list of installed printers.

Note: Each workstation running ProPay must have its own pdf995 driver installed.

Solution

Follow these troubleshooting steps in order until the issue is resolved.

Step 1: Reinstall PDF995

  1. Go to Utilities > Download PDF995 drivers > Install PDF995 drivers on the ProPay Main Menu.
  2. Complete the installation.
  3. Try printing to PDF995 from ProPay.

If the problem persists, continue to Step 2.

Step 2: Check folder permissions

PDF reports are created in: This PC > Documents > Paysoft > PDF995 > Output

To verify this folder exists:

  • In ProPay, go to Utilities > Show PDF Temp files folder on the ProPay Main Menu.
  • You can right-click this folder and send a shortcut to your desktop for easier access.

Set permissions for the Output folder:

  1. Right-click the Output folder.
  2. Click Properties > Security tab.
  3. Check permissions for your user account:
    • For local PC users: Check local user names
    • For domain users: Check domain user names
    1. Place a check mark in READ, WRITE, DELETE, and MODIFY for all users.
    2. Click Apply to all sub-folders.
    3. If the user "everyone" is not listed:
      • Click Add and add the user named everyone.
      • Select the everyone user.
      • Place check marks in READ, WRITE, DELETE, and MODIFY.
      • Apply to all sub-folders.

Repeat the same permission check for the PDF995 folder:

      • Go to: This PC > Documents > Paysoft > PDF995
      • Follow the same steps to set permissions.

      Step 3: Test with WordPad

      1. Open WordPad.
      2. Create a new document and type "1234 test".
      3. Print the document to the pdf995 printer driver.
      4. Go to Utilities > Show PDF Temp files folder on the ProPay Main Menu.
      5. Check if the PDF file was created.

      If successful:

      • Try printing from ProPay to pdf995.

      If unsuccessful:

      • Reinstall the pdf995 driver from ProPay's Utilities menu.

      Step 4: Update Adobe Reader

      1. Go to www.adobe.com
      2. Download and install the free Adobe Reader.

Step 5: Disable security software temporarily

      1. Temporarily disable any firewalls or antivirus software (Windows Firewall, Norton, McAfee, Sophos, etc.).
      2. Try printing to PDF995 again.

      If this solves the problem:

      • Add PAY2026.EXE and SETUP.EXE to your security software's Allowed or Exempt from Quarantine list.

If this does not solve the problem:

      • Contact Paysoft support to arrange a desktop sharing session for further troubleshooting.

Step 6: Check for stuck print jobs

Symptoms: Pdf995 printer jobs remain in the printer queue.

      Solution:

      1. Download www.freeware995.com/misc/folderconfig.exe
      2. Right-click the downloaded file and select Run As Administrator.
      3. Reinstall Pdf995 v11.0 or later from ProPay's Utilities menu.

      Advanced Configuration

      Installing to a custom folder

For pdf995 to work properly with ProPay, the program must be installed on the root folder of the C:\ drive.

      To install to C: drive:

      Option 1: Run as Administrator

      1. Locate the file \PAYSOFT\DRIVERS\AUTOSETUP.EXE.
      2. Right-click it and select Run as Administrator.

Option 2: Manually adjust the registry

      1. Run regedit.exe.
      2. Create the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\pdf995
      3. Add a STRING named "Path" and set its value to C:\
      4. Make sure the specified folder exists. Don't forget the last slash.

      Additional troubleshooting:

If you still have issues AND this is not Vista, a shared network printer, or a terminal server system:

      1. Go to pdf995\res\pdf995.ini
      2. Add the following line to the parameters section:

      _CODE_BLOCK_0_

      Terminal Server Configuration

If you're installing PDF995 on a terminal server:

      1. Install pdf995 as you would install any application.
      1. Run pdfedit995 as an administrator:
        • Leave the first auto-name choice.
        • Select Options.
        • Specify that Save As should open to the users' My Documents folders.
        1. To prevent sponsor pages on Terminal Server or shared network printers:
          • Run the key generator from the console or as an administrator.
          • Add the following line to pdf995\res\pdf995.ini in the parameters section:

          _CODE_BLOCK_1_

          • Copy c:\windows\wpd99.drv to pdf995\res\drivedir.
          • If sponsor pages still appear, run the key generator on another system and use the wpd99.drv file from that system's Windows folder.
          1. Enable user mode:
            • Add the following line to pdf995\res\pdf995.ini in the parameters section:

            _CODE_BLOCK_2_

Note: The first time a user prints to pdf995 in user mode, the software copies the global ini file to their Documents and Settings\\Application Data\pdf995\res folder. If necessary, you can delete or modify the user's personal pdf995.ini file.
