Firewall and Antivirus Issues
Overview
Firewalls and antivirus programs are designed to protect your computer from malicious users and software. However, they may sometimes classify ProPay as dangerous or untrusted software and block it from running properly.
Important: The instructions below are for testing purposes only. After testing, restore your security software to its original state and configure it to allow ProPay as trusted software.
Testing Procedure
Follow these steps to determine if ProPay is being blocked:
- Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus software (instructions below).
- Test ProPay to see if the issue is resolved.
- If ProPay works with security software disabled, the problem is confirmed.
- Re-enable your security software.
- Configure your security software to allow ProPay (add to exceptions or trusted programs list).
Windows Firewall
Allow ProPay through Windows Firewall
This is the recommended approach instead of disabling the firewall completely.
- Click Start > Control Panel > Security > Windows Firewall.
- In the left pane, click Allow a program through Windows Firewall.
- If prompted for an administrator password, type the password or provide confirmation.
- Select the check box next to PAY2026 (or your ProPay version).
- Click OK.
Disable Windows Firewall
For testing only:
- Click Start > Run.
- Type Firewall.cpl and click OK.
- On the General tab, click Off (not recommended).
- Click OK.
Windows Security Center
Disable Windows Security Center
- Click Start > Run.
- Type services.msc and click OK.
- Scroll down and locate Security Center.
- Right-click Security Center and select Properties.
- Use the dropdown menu to change Startup Type from Automatic to Disable.
- Click OK.
- Right-click Security Center and click Stop.
- Close the Services window.
User Account Control
Turn off User Account Control
Note: You need Administrative privileges to perform this function.
- Go to Control Panel > User Accounts.
- Check the box to turn User Account Control to OFF.
Windows Defender
Disable Windows Defender
Note: You need Administrative privileges to perform this function.
- Go to Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Services.
- Scroll down the list and locate Windows Defender.
- Right-click Windows Defender and select Properties.
- Under Startup Type, select Disabled.
Norton Firewall
Disable Norton Firewall
- Right-click the Norton Internet Security icon in the system tray.
- Select Disable.
Mcafee
Disable McAfee Internet Security
- Right-click the McAfee icon in the system tray.
- Point to Personal Firewall and click Options.
- Click the Security tab.
- Move the Security Level slider to the desired level.
- Set Access to Low.
- Click OK to save changes.
Disable McAfee Firewall
Option 1:
- Click Stop McAfee Firewall to disable the software.
- From the Welcome to McAfee Firewall screen, go to Network Control Settings.
- Select Allow All Traffic.
Option 2:
- Press Windows Key + R.
- Type services.msc and press Enter.
- Search the list for McAfee.
- Right-click and select Stop to temporarily halt the service.
- To disable permanently:
- Right-click the service and select Properties.
- In the Startup Type dropdown, select Disabled.
- Right-click the ZoneAlarm icon in the system tray.
- Select Shutdown ZoneAlarm.
- Right-clicking the program icon in the system tray (notification area).
- Selecting the disable or turn off option from the menu.
- Open the program's control panel or control center.
- Look for options to disable protection temporarily.
- Open your security software's control panel.
- Look for settings related to:
- Allowed Programs
- Trusted Applications
- Exceptions
- Exclusions
- Program Permissions
- Add the following ProPay files:
- PAY2026.EXE (or your version number)
- SETUP.EXE
- Set permissions to allow full access.
- Save your changes.
- Return to the same screen where you disabled the software.
- Select the option to enable or turn on the protection.
- Verify that ProPay is listed in the allowed or trusted programs.
