Transferring ProPay to a New Computer

Overview

If you wish to transfer the entire ProPay program and all clients to a new computer, follow the installation steps for your setup type first, then transfer your current files.

Installation on the New Computer

Single user installation

If you are installing a single user version of ProPay, see the Installation - Single User help topic.

Network installation

If you are installing ProPay on a network server, see the Network Installation help topic.

Transferring Current ProPay Files

The easiest and safest way to accomplish this task is by copying and pasting the PAYSOFT folder from the old computer to the new computer.

Transfer via network

If the new computer and the old computer are networked, simply copy the PAYSOFT folder from the old computer to the new computer.

Transfer via external drive

If the computers are not networked, you need an external drive such as a USB flash drive or CD ROM.

Using a USB flash drive:

  1. Copy and paste the PAYSOFT folder from the old computer to the external drive.
  2. Move and connect the external drive to the new computer.
  3. Copy and paste the PAYSOFT folder from the external drive to the new computer's hard drive.

Using a CD ROM:

  1. You need a CD ROM drive with read/write options on your old computer.
  2. Start any program that can write to a CD ROM.
  3. Copy the PAYSOFT folder from the old computer to a CD ROM.
  4. Insert the CD ROM into the new computer.
  5. Copy and paste the PAYSOFT folder from the CD ROM disk to the new computer's hard drive.
  6. Locate the PAYSOFT folder on your new computer.
  7. Right-click it and select Properties.
  8. Remove any check marks from the Read-only or Hidden attributes and click Apply.

Verify License Information

Go to Utilities > License Information to verify that your license displays correctly.

If you need to reactivate your license on the new computer, see Update Your Software License.

Review Your Client's Latest Payroll(s)

  1. Create a shortcut of the PAY2026.EXE file and start ProPay from the new computer.
  2. Download and install the latest version of ProPay.
  3. Go to payroll functions and review the payroll summary and check register of a few clients' payrolls that were processed right before transferring the files.

Set up Printers and Video

Next, see the System Set-up Printers and Video help topic to set up the printers and fonts on the new computer.
