Release File Lock on Server
Problem
You need to release locked ProPay files on a server for system maintenance or troubleshooting.
Solution
Method 1: Reboot the server (recommended)
The easiest way to release files is by rebooting the server PC or workstation. However, this method may not be suitable if other users are actively working on files on the server.
Method 2: Use server management tools
If rebooting is not an option, you can release files manually using server management tools. The process differs slightly depending on your server version.
For Windows Server 2012 R2
- Open the Server Management Console.
- Click Tools and then Computer Management.
- Click the arrow (>) next to Shared Folders.
- Click Open Files. This displays all open files on your server.
- Highlight the file(s) you wish to close in the target folder (e.g., \PAYSOFT\PROPAY26).
- Right-click and select All Tasks > Close file.
For Windows Server 2016
- Right-click the Start menu and select Computer Management.
- Click the arrow (>) next to Shared Folders.
- Click Open Files. This displays all open files on your server.
- Highlight the file(s) you wish to close in the target folder (e.g., \PAYSOFT\PROPAY26).
- Right-click and select All Tasks > Close file.
Additional Information
- The "Accessed By" column shows which users have files open.
- Rebooting a server or workstation automatically closes all open files.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues while trying to release files:
- Ensure you have the necessary administrative permissions to perform these actions.
- If a file refuses to close, communicate with the user who has it open to save their work and close the file manually.
- In case of persistent issues, consider scheduling a reboot during off-hours to ensure all files are properly released.
